The European Commission on Wednesday cleared the Food and Drug Administration for approving the development of sildenafil citrate tablets and sildenafil citrate gel, the active ingredient in Viagra, a drug used to treat erectile dysfunction.
The agency said it was also cleared for approval for the production of sildenafil citrate tablets from the European Medicines Agency.
The approval will allow the drug to be marketed in 25 countries by 2023, the agency said in a statement.
“The approval of Viagra, a popular ED medication, marks an important step in the development of a treatment for this debilitating condition,” the agency said in a statement.
“Viagra, like many other drugs, has a significant risk of serious side effects, including erectile dysfunction and the risk of developing heart attack and stroke, which is a leading cause of disability in many men worldwide.”
The drug is also used in pulmonary arterial hypertension, the main risk factor for erectile dysfunction, and in high blood pressure in the lungs.
“Sildenafil citrate tablets and sildenafil citrate gel are currently the only approved treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension, which has been found to be associated with a 10-fold increased risk of cardiovascular events,” the agency said.
In the EU, the drug was approved in May for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, and the agency’s decision was based on its assessment of the available data.
“The drug is approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in adults, and has been shown to be effective in improving erectile function in up to 80% of patients,” the agency said in its statement.
In the United Kingdom, the drug was approved in October for the treatment of erectile dysfunction, and is also approved for pulmonary arterial hypertension, the agency said.
“It is important to note that the FDA approved sildenafil citrate tablets and sildenafil citrate gel in 2007, and in June 2011, Viagra and its competitors were approved for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension,” the agency said.
“Sildenafil citrate tablets and sildenafil citrate gel are approved for use in the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension,” it added.
Sildenafil citrate tablets and sildenafil citrate gel are currently the only approved treatment for erectile dysfunction, and have been shown to be effective in improving erectile function in up to 80% of patients.
The drug was originally developed as a medication for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension in patients with high blood pressure. The FDA approved Viagra in 1998 for the treatment of this condition, while sildenafil citrate tablets and sildenafil citrate gel were approved to treat erectile dysfunction in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension.
Viagra is the world’s leading prescription medication for erectile dysfunction, and has helped more than 4.5 million men worldwide.
“The approval of Viagra represents an important step in the development of a treatment for erectile dysfunction, and it is an important step in the development of new medicines,” the agency said.
The FDA is also expected to continue the approval of sildenafil citrate tablets and sildenafil citrate gel by 2023, it added.
“The approval of Viagra will allow men to improve their sexual function and overall sexual satisfaction, which is important in the context of the treatment of erectile dysfunction,” the agency said.
Viagra was developed and patented in the UK in 1998 and marketed under the trade name Sildenafil, which was approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in 1998. It was approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in 1998 and in June 2011 for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension.
The drug is the world’s leading prescription medication for erectile dysfunction, and has helped more than 4.5 million men worldwide.
The agency said it was satisfied with the results of its analysis of available data, and expressed its confidence in the results.

Both Viagra and sildenafil are widely used to treat erectile dysfunction. In fact, they contain the same active ingredient. Viagra is a brand name for the sildenafil produced and sold by the company Pfizer. Sildenafil is also sold as a generic drug, which is medically identical to Viagra.
Sildenafil citrate was Albert Wood and Peter Dunn as a possible treatment for hypertension and angina; conditions associated with coronary heart disease. In 1991 Dr. Nicholas Terrett, now often referred to as the father of Viagra, was named in the British patent for the drug as a heart medication. And though Pfizer’s early trials of the drug in the 1990s did not prove its efficacy as a heart medication, patients who took part in the clinical trials reported increased erections after taking sildenafil. Separate studies provided more information on the biochemical process that causes erections, which helped scientists understand how sildenafil could enhance the effects of sexual stimulation and open up blood vessels in the penis. Sildenafil was then studied in men with erectile dysfunction, and in 1998 it was approved by the FDA specifically for treatment of ED and branded as Viagra.
When for the drug in June 2013 it made way for generic manufacturers to produce sildenafil, or ‘generic Viagra’. It costs a fraction of the price of Viagra, and has made the treatment more accessible to a wider range of patients. You can now choose to buy, Pfizer’s branded drug, or, the generic version.
Branded Viagra comes in small diamond-shaped blue pills – Pfizer has also patented this pill design and appearance. Sildenafil is sold as white or blue tablets, with different characteristics depending on the brand. Some have chalky finishes while others are smooth, and some are scored for easy division, while others are not. Both Viagra and the different can be purchased in 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg preparations, and there is no significant difference between them in terms of active ingredients.

Sildenafil tablets can come in many shapes, colours, and sizes – see.As a generic medicine, sildenafil is produced by a number of manufacturers, and competition among them helps to regulate its price and keep it affordable for consumers. Branded Viagra is only produced by Pfizer, whose name recognition and customer loyalty allow it to charge a higher price for its renowned ‘little blue pills’.
Viagra and sildenafil are medically the same. It is a requirement for the generic version to contain the same levels of the active ingredient in the body as its branded alternative, which is known as. Before generic drugs are licenced for sale the manufacturer must demonstrate bioequivalence to the licensing authorities (the ).
If you have a private prescription for Viagra, the branded drugmustbe dispensed; but you may ask for sildenafil at the time that the prescription is made. They are considered equally effective, however patients must follow proper protocol for optimum results. Also note that if the condition does not respond to the initial dose of Viagra or generic sildenafil, a higher dose may be required (after several unsuccessful attempts).

CINCINNATI –A Michigan man has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit Viagra and counterfeit drug products.
Bengal Khurdis, 41, was charged in federal court with conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit prescription drugs and possession of an unauthorised medical certificate in the United States.
Sgt. John Smith, 24, was arrested on Thursday at a Nevada brothel where the four-wheeled-UP truck driver was selling drugs. Smith is also charged with conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit prescription drugs and possession of an unauthorised medical certificate in the United States.
“We are very pleased that our officers had the opportunity to question the man at his residence,” U. S. Attorney David F. Rothman told reporters in a press conference Thursday.
“We will cooperate with the authorities and cooperate with the government,” he said.
John Smith was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 14, 2015 in the Eastern District of Michigan.
He faces up to two years in prison for the conspiracy.
According to prosecutors, the man planned to sell the drugs, intending to supply them to customers who would then order them for him.
“The defendants knew, or should have known, that this would happen, and the defendants took this opportunity to sell the drugs,” U. Attorney Rothman said.
John Smith is also charged with one count of distribution of counterfeit prescription drugs. The government is waiting for his sentencing on Thursday.
